Project Disco Ball was born from a moment of unexpected inspiration. As a breast cancer patient undergoing treatment at Miami Cancer Institute, our founder received a unique gift from a fellow survivor: a small disco ball with a simple but powerful message: bring this to your chemo infusions.
Trusting the wisdom of someone who had walked this difficult path before, she took the disco ball with her to treatment. And it made all the difference.
In the infusion rooms, where the atmosphere can often feel cold and clinical, the disco ball became a symbol of light and positivity. It sparked not only her own joy but also lifted the spirits of fellow patients, their families, and the healthcare staff. The shining reflections of the disco ball created a sense of warmth and hope, helping to transform the treatment space into one filled with laughter and connection.
Inspired by this simple but profound experience, Project Disco Ball was created to share that light with others. The initiative began with a shared vision: to bring joy, raise awareness, and provide support to cancer patients during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
Our Mission
At Miami Cancer Institute, patients undergoing chemotherapy are often treated to live performances by musicians who make rounds to bring music and comfort. The addition of a disco ball creates a similar effect: a burst of light, fun, and positivity that uplifts patients in the midst of their treatment.
Our goal at Project Disco Ball is to provide these small but powerful symbols of hope to as many patients as possible. With each disco ball placed in an infusion room, we aim to make the chemotherapy experience a little brighter, a little less isolating, and a lot more uplifting.
How We Make a Difference
In addition to bringing light and joy through our signature disco balls, Project Disco Ball is committed to supporting cancer patients with practical care during their treatment journey. Through generous donations, we assemble and distribute chemo care bags filled with essential items that help patients feel more comfortable during their chemotherapy sessions. These care bags typically include items like soothing lip balms, warm socks, ginger candies, hydration products, and other essentials that help ease the side effects of treatment.
By combining the emotional uplift of the disco balls with thoughtful, practical gifts, we aim to offer patients a sense of comfort, care, and connection that extends beyond the infusion room. Every donation helps us continue this work, ensuring that cancer patients receive not only the support they need but also the reminder that they are not alone.
Through fundraising, awareness, and the support of our community, we are dedicated to transforming the cancer journey by spreading light, joy, and a sense of connection—one disco ball and one care bag at a time.
We involve our youth and enable them to earn thousands of community service hours while showing them the importance of philanthropy and increasing awareness.
Throughout the year, we partner with local businesses and organizations in our efforts to continue to raise dollars and awareness.
